حَدَّثَنَا مَرْوَانُ بْنُ شُجَاعٍ حَدَّثَنِي خُصَيْفٌ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ طَافَ مَعَ مُعَاوِيَةَ بِالْبَيْتِ فَجَعَلَ مُعَاوِيَةُ يَسْتَلِمُ الْأَرْكَانَ كُلَّهَا فَقَالَ لَهُ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ لِمَ تَسْتَلِمُ هَذَيْنِ الرُّكْنَيْنِ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَسْتَلِمُهُمَا فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ لَيْسَ شَيْءٌ مِنْ الْبَيْتِ مَهْجُورًا فَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ { لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ } فَقَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ صَدَقْتَ.
English Translation
Ibn 'Abbas performed tawaf with Mu'awiyah around the Ka'bah, and Mu'awiyah was touching all the corners. Ibn 'Abbas said to him: "Why do you touch these two corners when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not touch them?" Mu'awiyah said: "Nothing of the House should be abandoned." Ibn 'Abbas said: "Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example." Mu'awiyah said: "You are right."
