حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَفْصٍ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَن أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَن الْبَرَاءِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا أَوَيْتَ إِلَى فِرَاشِكَ فَقُلْ اللَّهُمَّ أَسْلَمْتُ نَفْسِي إِلَيْكَ وَوَجَّهْتُ وَجْهِي إِلَيْكَ وَفَوَّضْتُ أَمْرِي إِلَيْكَ وَأَلْجَأْتُ ظَهْرِي إِلَيْكَ رَغْبَةً وَرَهْبَةً إِلَيْكَ لَا مَلْجَأَ وَلَا مَنْجَا إِلَّا إِلَيْكَ آمَنْتُ بِكِتَابِكَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلْتَ وَبِنَبِيِّكَ الَّذِي أَرْسَلْتَ فَإِنْ مِتَّ مِنْ لَيْلَتِكَ مِتَّ وَأَنْتَ عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ وَإِنْ أَصْبَحْتَ أَصَبْتَ خَيْرًا.
English Translation
Ali ibn Hafs told us, Sufyan told us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara', who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When you go to your bed, say: 'O Allah, I have submitted myself to You, and turned my face to You, and entrusted my affair to You, and taken refuge with my back to You, out of desire and fear of You; there is no refuge and no escape except to You. I believe in Your Book which You have revealed, and in Your Prophet whom You have sent.' For if you die during that night, you die upon the natural disposition (fitrah), and if you live until morning, you attain good."
