English Translation
Aswad b. 'Amir and Abu Ahmad told us, they said Isra'il told us, from Abu Ishaq, from al-Bara', who said: The Companions of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, when a man was fasting and the time for breaking the fast came and he fell asleep before breaking it, he would not eat that night nor the following day until evening. And a certain man of the Ansar was fasting, and when the time for breaking his fast came, he went to his wife and said: Do you have any food? She said: No, but let me go and seek some for you. Then sleep overcame him, and his wife came, and when she saw him she said: What a disappointment for you! In the morning, when the day reached midday, he fainted. That was mentioned to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and this verse was revealed: "It has been made permissible for you, on the night of the fast, to go in unto your wives..." up to His saying "...until the white thread of dawn becomes distinct to you from the black thread." Abu Ahmad said: And Qays b. Sirmah al-Ansari came and slept, and the same was mentioned about him. Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Malik told us, he said Zuhayr told us, Abu Ishaq told us, from al-Bara' b. 'Azib, that one of them, when he slept, the same was mentioned as in the hadith of Isra'il, except that he said: It was revealed concerning Abu Qays b. 'Amr.
