English Translation
Waki' told us, Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah told us, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from Abu Burdah, from al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah, who said: I ate garlic, then came to the prayer-place of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and found that he had already gone ahead of me by one rak'ah. When he finished praying I stood to make it up, and he noticed the smell of garlic and said, "Whoever has eaten this plant should not come near our mosque until its smell has gone." He said: When I finished the prayer, I came to him and said, "O Messenger of God, I have an excuse — give me your hand." He said: I found it, by God, gentle, and he gave me his hand, and I put it inside my sleeve to my chest, and he found it bandaged, and he said, "You have an excuse."
