English Translation
Yahya ibn Sa'id told us, from Sa'id ibn Ubayd, who said: I heard Ali ibn Rabi'ah say: I witnessed al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah go out one day and ascend the pulpit. He praised God and extolled Him, then said, "What is the matter with this wailing in Islam?" — a man from the Ansar had died and was being wailed over — "I heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'Lying about me is not like lying about anyone else; whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his seat in the Fire.' I heard the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, say, 'Whoever is wailed over will be punished for what was wailed over him.'"
