حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ زُهْرَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ آخِذٌ بِيَدِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ فَقَالَ وَاللَّهِ لَأَنْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ إِلَّا نَفْسِي فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى أَكُونَ عِنْدَهُ أَحَبَّ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ نَفْسِهِ قَالَ عُمَرُ فَلَأَنْتَ الْآنَ وَاللَّهِ أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ نَفْسِي فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْآنَ يَا عُمَرُ.
English Translation
It was narrated to us by Qutaybah ibn Sa'id, it was narrated to us by Ibn Lahi'ah, from Zuhrah ibn Ma'bad, from his grandfather, who said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was holding the hand of Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and Umar said, "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, you are more beloved to me than everything except my own self." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you truly believes until I am more beloved to him than his own self." Umar said, "Then now, by Allah, you are more beloved to me than my own self." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Now, O Umar."
