حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنِ الشَّرِيدِ أَنَّ أُمَّهُ أَوْصَتْ أَنْ يُعْتِقَ عَنْهَا رَقَبَةً مُؤْمِنَةً فَسَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ عِنْدِي جَارِيَةٌ سَوْدَاءُ أَوْ نُوبِيَّةٌ فَأَعْتِقُهَا فَقَالَ ائْتِ بِهَا فَدَعَوْتُهَا فَجَاءَتْ فَقَالَ لَهَا مَنْ رَبُّكِ قَالَتْ اللَّهُ قَالَ مَنْ أَنَا فَقَالَتْ أَنْتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَعْتِقْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مُؤْمِنَةٌ.
English Translation
Abd al-Samad told us, Hammad ibn Salamah told us, Muhammad ibn Amr told us, from Abu Salamah, from al-Sharid, that his mother had instructed that a believing slave be freed on her behalf. So he asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about that, and he said, "I have a black or Nubian slave girl; shall I free her?" He said, "Bring her to me." So I called her, and she came. He said to her, "Who is your Lord?" She said, "Allah." He said, "Who am I?" She said, "You are the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." He said, "Free her, for she is a believer."
