حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ عَنْ عُمَرِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ عَنْ أَبِي لَاسٍ الْخُزَاعِيِّ قَالَ حَمَلَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى إِبِلٍ مِنْ إِبِلِ الصَّدَقَةِ لِلْحَجِّ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا نَرَى أَنْ تَحْمِلَنَا هَذِهِ قَالَ مَا مِنْ بَعِيرٍ لَنَا إِلَّا فِي ذُرْوَتِهِ شَيْطَانٌ فَاذْكُرُوا اسْمَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهَا إِذَا رَكِبْتُمُوهَا كَمَا أَمَرْتُكُمْ ثُمَّ امْتَهِنُوهَا لِأَنْفُسِكُمْ فَإِنَّمَا يَحْمِلُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ubayd told us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told us, from Muhammad ibn Ibrahim, from Umar ibn al-Hakam ibn Thawban, from Abu Las al-Khuza'i, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, mounted us on camels from the camels of charity for the Hajj. We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we do not think these can carry us." He said, "There is no camel of ours but that a devil is on its hump. So mention the name of Allah over it when you ride it, as I have commanded you, then subdue it for your own use, for it is Allah, Mighty and Sublime, who truly carries [you]."
