حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْلَى الطَّائِفِيَّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ أَبِي الْعَاصِ يَقُولُ اسْتَعْمَلَنِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الطَّائِفِ وَكَانَ آخِرُ مَا عَهِدَهُ إِلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ خَفِّفْ عَلَى النَّاسِ الصَّلَاةَ.
English Translation
Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us: Abdullah — namely Ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Ya'la al-Ta'ifi — narrated to us, from Abdullah ibn al-Hakam, that he heard Uthman ibn Abi al-'As say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed me over al-Ta'if, and the last thing the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, enjoined upon me was that he said: 'Be brief with the people in the prayer.'
