English Translation
Al-Hakam ibn Musa narrated to us — Abdullah said: and I also heard it from al-Hakam — saying: Shihab ibn Khirash narrated to us, saying: Shu'ayb ibn Ruzayq al-Ta'ifi narrated to me, who said: I was sitting with a man called al-Hakam ibn Hazn al-Kulafi, who had companionship with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: He began to narrate to us, saying: 'I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, as the seventh of seven, or the ninth of nine.' He said: 'So he gave us permission, and we entered, and we said: "O Messenger of Allah, we have come to you so that you may pray for good for us." He said: So he prayed for good for us, and ordered that we be lodged, and ordered that we be given some dates — and the state of affairs at that time was modest.' He said: 'We stayed with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for some days, during which we witnessed the Friday prayer. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up, leaning on a bow — or he said, on a staff — and he praised Allah and extolled Him with brief, good, blessed words, then said: "O people, you will never do, nor will you ever be able to bear, everything you have been commanded; but aim for what is right, and rejoice."' Sa'id ibn Mansur narrated to us: Shihab ibn Khirash ibn Hawshab narrated to us: Shu'ayb ibn Ruzayq al-Ta'ifi narrated to us, who said: I sat with a man who had companionship with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, called al-Hakam ibn Hazn al-Kulafi, and he began to narrate, and he related the same meaning.
