English Translation
Al-Walid ibn Muslim, Abu al-Abbas al-Dimashqi, narrated to us in Mecca by dictation, he said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Jabir narrated to me, he said: Yahya ibn Jabir al-Ta'i, the judge of Homs, narrated to me, he said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr al-Hadrami narrated to me, from his father, that he heard al-Nawwas ibn Sam'an al-Kilabi say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, mentioned the Dajjal one morning, and he lowered his voice about him and then raised it, until we thought he was among a grove of palm trees. When we came to him later, he perceived that fear in our faces, so we asked him about it. We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you mentioned the Dajjal this morning, and you lowered your voice about him and raised it, until we thought he was among a grove of palm trees.' He said: 'Something other than the Dajjal is what I fear most for you. If he appears while I am among you, then I will be his adversary on your behalf; but if he appears while I am not among you, then every man is his own adversary, and Allah is my successor over every Muslim. He is a young man with tightly curled hair, and his eye is protruding, as if it were floating. He will emerge from a gap between Syria and Iraq, and he will spread corruption right and left. O servants of Allah, stand firm!' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how long will he remain on earth?' He said: 'Forty days: a day like a year, a day like a month, a day like a week, and the rest of his days like your ordinary days.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, on that day which is like a year, will the prayers of a single day and night suffice us?' He said: 'No, reckon for it its proper measure.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, how fast will he move through the earth?' He said: 'Like rain driven by the wind.' He said: 'He will pass by a people and call them, and they will respond to him. Then he will command the sky and it will rain, and the earth and it will bring forth vegetation, and their grazing herds will return to them in the evening with their humps taller than they have ever been, their flanks fuller, and their udders more abundant with milk. Then he will pass by another people and call them, but they will reject his word and turn him away, so he will leave them, and they will wake up ruined, with nothing left of their wealth. And he will pass by a ruin and say to it: Bring forth your treasures! And its treasures will follow him like swarms of bees. Then he will summon a man in the prime of youth and strike him with the sword, cutting him into two pieces, like the mark made by an arrow at a target; then he will call him, and he will come forward to him with his face beaming with joy. While he is in that state, Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will send the Messiah, son of Mary, peace be upon him, and he will descend at the white minaret to the east of Damascus, wearing two garments dyed with saffron, resting his hands on the wings of two angels. He will pursue him and overtake him at the gate of Lud, on its eastern side, and kill him. Then, while the believers are in that condition, Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will reveal to Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon him: I have brought forth servants of Mine whom no one has the power to fight; so take My servants safely to the mount (al-Tur). Then Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will send Gog and Magog, and they will be, as Allah, Mighty and Sublime, has said: coming down swiftly from every mound. Jesus and his companions will implore Allah, Mighty and Sublime, and He will send upon them worms in their necks, and they will all perish in one morning, as if with the death of a single soul. Then Jesus and his companions will come down, and they will not find on the earth a space the size of a house except that it is filled with their stench and their putrid smell. So Jesus and his companions will implore Allah, Mighty and Sublime, again, and He will send upon them birds like the necks of Bactrian camels, which will carry them and cast them wherever Allah, Mighty and Sublime, wills.' Ibn Jabir said: Ata ibn Yazid al-Saksaki narrated to me, from Ka'b or someone else, who said: 'They will be cast at al-Muhabbal.' Ibn Jabir said: I said, 'O Abu Yazid, and where is al-Muhabbal?' He said: 'The place where the sun rises.' He said: 'And Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will send rain such that no house of hair or house of clay will keep it out, for forty days, and it will wash the earth until it leaves it like a gleaming mirror. And it will be said to the earth: Bring forth your fruit and restore your blessing. On that day a group of people will eat from a single pomegranate and shelter in the shade of its rind, and milk will be blessed such that a single milch-camel will suffice a great multitude of people, and a milch-cow will suffice a whole clan, and a single ewe of the sheep will suffice a household. While they are in that state, Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will send a pleasant wind that will come beneath their armpits and take the soul of every Muslim' - or he said, 'every believer' - 'and there will remain the worst of people, copulating openly like donkeys, and upon them' - or he said, 'upon it' - 'the Hour will come.'
