English Translation
Waki' told us, al-Mas'udi told us, from Umar ibn Ya'la al-Thaqafi, from Ya'la ibn Murrah, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, when he stood for prayer, used to wipe the faces of his companions before saying the takbir. So I got some perfumed cosmetic on me, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, wiped the faces of his companions but left me out. He said: So I went back and washed it off, then I came to the next prayer, and he wiped my face and said, 'He has returned to the good of his lofty religion, he has repented, and the sky has poured forth rain.'
