English Translation
Hasan narrated to us, Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, Bakr ibn Sawadah narrated to us, from Ziyad ibn Nu'aym, from Hibban ibn Buhh al-Sudai, a companion of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that he said: My people disbelieved, and I was informed that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had prepared an army against them. So I came to him and said: My people are upon Islam. He said: Is that so? I said: Yes. He said: I followed him through my night until morning, and I gave the call to prayer when morning came, and he gave me a vessel from which I performed ablution. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, put his fingers into the vessel, and it gushed forth like springs. He said: Whoever among you wants to perform ablution, let him do so. So I performed ablution and prayed, and he placed me in authority over them and gave me their charity to collect. Then a man stood up before the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: So-and-so has wronged me. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is no good in authority for a Muslim. Then a man came asking for charity, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: Charity is a headache in the head and a burning in the belly, or [he said] a sickness. So I gave him my document - or the document of my authority and my charity collection - and he said: What is the matter with you? I said: How can I accept it when I have heard from you what I have heard? He said: It is as you heard.
