English Translation
Husayn ibn Muhammad told us: Yazid - meaning Ibn Ata' - told us, from Yazid - meaning Ibn Abi Ziyad - from Abdullah ibn al-Harith ibn Nawfal: Abd al-Muttalib ibn Rabi'ah ibn al-Harith ibn Abd al-Muttalib told me, who said: al-Abbas came in to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, angry. He said to him: What has angered you? He said: O Messenger of Allah, what is it with us and Quraysh? When they meet among themselves they meet with cheerful faces, but when they meet us they meet us otherwise. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, became angry until his face reddened and the vein between his eyes swelled - for whenever he became angry it would swell - and when this had passed from him, he said: By the One in whose hand is my soul - or he said: By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad - faith will not enter the heart of a man until he loves you for the sake of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and for His Messenger. Then he said: O people, whoever harms al-Abbas has harmed me; the paternal uncle of a man is like the trunk of his father.
