حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ دُخَيْنٍ الْحَجْرِيِّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْبَلَ إِلَيْهِ رَهْطٌ فَبَايَعَ تِسْعَةً وَأَمْسَكَ عَنْ وَاحِدٍ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بَايَعْتَ تِسْعَةً وَتَرَكْتَ هَذَا قَالَ إِنَّ عَلَيْهِ تَمِيمَةً فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فَقَطَعَهَا فَبَايَعَهُ وَقَالَ مَنْ عَلَّقَ تَمِيمَةً فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ.
English Translation
Abd al-Samad ibn Abd al-Warith told us, Abd al-Aziz ibn Muslim told us, Yazid ibn Abi Mansur told us, from Dukhayn al-Hajri, from Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani, that a group came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he took the pledge of allegiance from nine of them but withheld it from one. They said: O Messenger of Allah, you took the pledge from nine and left this one? He said: He has an amulet on him. So he put his hand in and cut it off, then took his pledge of allegiance, and said: Whoever hangs an amulet has committed shirk (associated partners with Allah).
