حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ حَدَّثَنَا الْفَرَجُ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَامِرٍ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي عَلِيٍّ الْمِصْرِيِّ قَالَ سَافَرْنَا مَعَ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ فَحَضَرَتْنَا الصَّلَاةُ فَأَرَدْنَا أَنْ يَتَقَدَّمَنَا قَالَ قُلْنَا أَنْتَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا تَتَقَدَّمُنَا قَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَنْ أَمَّ قَوْمًا فَإِنْ أَتَمَّ فَلَهُ التَّمَامُ وَلَهُمْ التَّمَامُ وَإِنْ لَمْ يُتِمَّ فَلَهُمْ التَّمَامُ وَعَلَيْهِ الْإِثْمُ.
English Translation
Abu al-Nadr told us, al-Faraj told us, Abd Allah ibn Amir al-Aslami told us, from Abu Ali al-Misri, who said: We traveled with Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani, and the time for prayer came upon us, so we wanted him to lead us. We said: You are one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, yet you will not lead us? He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Whoever leads a people in prayer — if he completes it properly, then he and they both have the reward of completeness; but if he does not complete it properly, they have the reward of completeness and he bears the sin.
