حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِنَّ أَنْسَابَكُمْ هَذِهِ لَيْسَتْ بِسِبَابٍ عَلَى أَحَدٍ وَإِنَّمَا أَنْتُمْ وَلَدُ آدَمَ طَفُّ الصَّاعِ لَمْ تَمْلَئُوهُ لَيْسَ لِأَحَدٍ فَضْلٌ إِلَّا بِالدِّينِ أَوْ عَمَلٍ صَالِحٍ حَسْبُ الرَّجُلِ أَنْ يَكُونَ فَاحِشًا بَذِيًّا بَخِيلًا جَبَانًا.
English Translation
Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us, he said: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from al-Harith ibn Yazid, from 'Ali ibn Rabah, from 'Uqbah ibn 'Amir, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "These lineages of yours are not a cause for reviling anyone; you are all children of Adam, like the surface of a measure not filled up. No one has superiority except through religion or righteous deeds. It is enough disgrace for a man to be foul-mouthed, obscene, miserly, and cowardly."
