English Translation
Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi told us, saying: Malik told us, from al-Zuhri, from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah, from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani and Abu Hurayrah, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about a slave-woman who commits adultery without being married. He said: "Flog her; if she commits adultery (again), flog her" — and he said, in the third or fourth time: "if she commits adultery (again), sell her, even for a braided rope" — and the braided rope is a cord. Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, saying: Ma'mar told us, saying: Ibn Shihab told us, from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utbah — the meaning the same — Abd al-Razzaq told us: Ma'mar told us, from al-Zuhri, from Ubaydullah ibn Abdullah ibn Utbah, from Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani and Abu Hurayrah, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about the slave-woman, and he mentioned the hadith, and said, in the third or fourth time — al-Zuhri was uncertain.
