English Translation
Sufyan told us, from Yahya ibn Sa'id, from Yazid, freedman of al-Munba'ith — Yahya said: Rabi'ah informed me that he said (this) from Zayd ibn Khalid — so I asked Rabi'ah, and he said: I was told it from Zayd ibn Khalid: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was asked about a lost camel; he grew angry, his cheeks reddening, and said: "What business is it of yours? It has its footwear and its water-store; it reaches water and eats from the trees until it comes to its owner." And he was asked about a lost sheep, and he said: "Take it, for it is either yours, your brother's, or the wolf's." And he was asked about a lost item found, and he said: "Note its wrapping and its tie-string, then announce it publicly for a year; if it is claimed, (return it); and otherwise, mix it with your own wealth."
