English Translation

Ya'qub told us, saying: My father told us, from Ibn Ishaq, saying: Yazid ibn Abi Habib told me, from Abu Marzuq, freedman of Tujib, from Hanash al-San'ani, who said: We went on a campaign with Ruwayfi' ibn Thabit al-Ansari to a village of the villages of the Maghrib called Jarbah, and he stood among us delivering a sermon and said: "O people, I say to you nothing but what I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say — he stood among us on the day of Hunayn and said: 'It is not lawful for a man who believes in Allah and the Last Day to water his seed in another's crop' — meaning intercourse with pregnant women among the captives — 'nor to have relations with a woman previously married among the captives until he lets her (womb) become clear' — meaning, when he has purchased her — 'nor to sell from the spoils of war before it is divided, nor to ride an animal from the booty of the Muslims until, when he has worn it down, he returns it to the pool, nor to wear a garment from the booty of the Muslims until, when he has worn it out, he returns it to the pool.'"
