حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَرِيزُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ أَبِي عَوْفٍ الْجُرَشِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي هِنْدٍ الْبَجَلِيِّ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ مُعَاوِيَةَ وَهُوَ عَلَى سَرِيرِهِ وَقَدْ غَمَّضَ عَيْنَيْهِ فَتَذَاكَرْنَا الْهِجْرَةَ وَالْقَائِلُ مِنَّا يَقُولُ انْقَطَعَتْ وَالْقَائِلُ مِنَّا يَقُولُ لَمْ تَنْقَطِعْ فَاسْتَنْبَهَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فَقَالَ مَا كُنْتُمْ فِيهِ فَأَخْبَرْنَاهُ وَكَانَ قَلِيلَ الرَّدِّ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ تَذَاكَرْنَا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ لَا تَنْقَطِعُ الْهِجْرَةُ حَتَّى تَنْقَطِعَ التَّوْبَةُ وَلَا تَنْقَطِعُ التَّوْبَةُ حَتَّى تَطْلُعَ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ مَغْرِبِهَا.
English Translation
Yazid ibn Harun said: Hariz ibn 'Uthman informed us: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi 'Awf al-Jurashi narrated to us from Abu Hind al-Bajali, who said: We were with Mu'awiya while he was upon his couch with his eyes closed, and we discussed the migration (hijra) - one of us saying it had ended, another saying it had not ended. Then Mu'awiya awoke and said: 'What were you discussing?' We told him, and - he being one who rarely contradicted the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him - he said: 'We discussed this in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: The migration will not cease until repentance ceases, and repentance will not cease until the sun rises from its place of setting.'
