حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْبٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ شَدَّادٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو شَيْخٍ الْهُنَائِيُّ عَنْ أَخِيهِ حِمَّانَ أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَامَ حَجَّ جَمَعَ نَفَرًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ أَسْأَلُكُمْ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ فَأَخْبِرُونِي أَنْشُدُكُمْ اللَّهَ هَلْ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ لُبْسِ الْحَرِيرِ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ أَنَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ لُبْسِ الذَّهَبِ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ قَالَ أَنْشُدُكُمْ بِاللَّهِ أَنَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ لُبْسِ صُوفِ النُّمُورِ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ.
English Translation
'Abd al-Samad narrated to us: Harb, that is ibn Shaddad, narrated to us, saying: Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to me, saying: Abu Shaykh al-Hunaji narrated to me from his brother Himman: that Mu'awiya, in the year he performed Hajj, gathered a group of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the Ka'ba, and said: 'I ask you about certain matters, so inform me. I adjure you by Allah: did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbid wearing silk?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'And I bear witness.' Then he said: 'I adjure you by Allah: did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbid wearing gold?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'And I bear witness.' He said: 'I adjure you by Allah: did the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbid wearing leopard-wool?' They said: 'Yes.' He said: 'And I bear witness.'
