حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ يَعْنِي ابْنَ كَيْسَانَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ أخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ الصَّعْبَ بْنَ جَثَّامَةَ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ أَهْدَى لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِمَارَ وَحْشٍ وَهُوَ بِوَدَّانَ فَرَدَّهُ عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَلَمَّا رَأَى مَا فِي وَجْهِي قَالَ إِنَّا لَمْ نَرُدَّهُ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنَّا حُرُمٌ.
English Translation
'Abdullah narrated to us: Ishaq ibn Mansur narrated to me, he said: Ya'qub ibn Ibrahim -- that is, Ibn Sa'd -- informed us, he said: My father informed us, from Salih -- that is, Ibn Kaysan -- from Ibn Shihab, that 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah informed him, that Ibn 'Abbas informed him, that al-Sa'b ibn Jaththamah informed him, that he gave the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, a gift of a wild donkey while he was at Wadan, and he returned it to him. He said: When he saw what was on my face, he said: "We only returned it to you because we are in ihram."
