English Translation
Hammad narrated to us, from Yazid, from Salamah, who said: 'Amir was a poet, and he got down and began chanting: "O Allah, were it not for You we would not have been guided, nor given charity, nor prayed. So forgive - as ransom for You - what we have done, and make firm our feet if we meet [the enemy], and send down tranquility upon us; indeed, when called, we come, and at the cry we rally." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Who is this chanter?" They said: "Ibn al-Akwa'." He said: "May Allah have mercy on him." A man said: "It has become obligatory [Paradise for him], O Messenger of Allah - if only you had let us enjoy him longer." He said: Then he was struck down, having gone to strike a Jewish man, and the tip of the sword struck the socket of his own knee, and the people said: "His deed has been nullified; he killed himself." He said: So I went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, after he arrived in Madinah, and he was in the mosque. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, they claim that 'Amir's deed has been nullified." He said: "Who says that?" I said: "Some men from the Ansar, among them so-and-so and so-and-so." He said: "Whoever said that lies; indeed he has a double reward" - with his two fingers - "and indeed he strove and struggled, and few are the Arabs who walked as he did seeking you."
