قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ فَسُئِلَ سُفْيَانُ عَمَّنْ قَالَ هُوَ مَحْمُودٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنَّ عِتْبَانَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ كَانَ رَجُلًا مَحْجُوبَ الْبَصَرِ وَأَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ التَّخَلُّفَ عَنْ الصَّلَاةِ قَالَ هَلْ تَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَلَمْ يُرَخِّصْ لَهُ.
English Translation
He said: Sufyan narrated to us, from al-Zuhri - Sufyan was then asked about the one who said it, and he said: "It is Mahmud, if Allah wills" - that 'Itban ibn Malik was a man whose sight was impaired, and he mentioned to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, staying away from prayer. He said: "Do you hear the call?" He said: "Yes." He said: Then he did not grant him a concession.
