English Translation
Wahb ibn Jarir told us: my father told me: I heard Yunus narrate, from al-Zuhri, from Muslim ibn Yazid, one of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr, that he heard Abu Shurayh al-Khuza'i, then al-Ka'bi, who was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "The Messenger of Allah permitted us on the day of the Conquest to fight Banu Bakr, until we took our revenge from them, while he was in Mecca. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered that swords be put away. The next day, a group of us met a man of Hudhayl in the Sanctuary, heading towards the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, to become Muslim - and he had wronged them in pre-Islamic times, and they had been seeking him - so they killed him, and hastened to reach the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, so as to be safe. When that reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, he became extremely angry - by Allah, I never saw him angrier than that - so we hurried to Abu Bakr, Umar, and Ali, may Allah be pleased with them, seeking their intercession, and we feared that we had perished. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had prayed, he stood and praised Allah, Mighty and Majestic, as He deserves, then said: 'To proceed: Allah, Mighty and Majestic, made Mecca sacred, and people did not make it sacred. It was only made lawful for me for an hour of the day yesterday, and it is today sacred as Allah, Mighty and Majestic, made it sacred the first time. The most insolent of people towards Allah, Mighty and Majestic, are three: a man who kills within it, a man who kills someone other than his killer, and a man who seeks revenge for pre-Islamic blood. And I, by Allah, will surely pay blood money for this man whom you killed.' So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, paid the blood money for him."
