Muhammad ibn Bakr told us: Ibn Jurayj informed us: I was informed that Abu Sa'id al-Khudri — and from Sulayman ibn Musa, from so-and-so — and from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir ibn Abdullah — though Abu al-Zubayr did not relate the whole of this account — that Abu Qatada came to his family and found a bowl of tharid made from the dried meat of the sacrifice, and he refused to eat it, and went to Qatada ibn al-Nu'man and informed him that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had stood up during the Hajj and said, 'I had commanded you not to eat the sacrificial meat beyond three days so that it would suffice you all — but now I permit it to you, so eat of it as you wish.' He said: 'And do not sell the meat of the sacrificial or offering animal — eat it and give it in charity, and make use of its skins; and if you are given some of its meat as a gift, eat it if you wish.'
