English Translation
He said: Hashim ibn al-Qasim told us, he said: Layth ibn Sa'd told us, he said: Ibn Shihab told me, from Urwah ibn az-Zubayr, from Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr, who said: A man from the Ansar disputed with az-Zubayr before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, concerning the water channels of the Harrah with which they irrigated the date palms. The Ansari said to az-Zubayr, "Release the water," but he refused, so the matter was brought before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Irrigate, O Zubayr, then release the water to your neighbor." The Ansari became angry and said, "O Messenger of Allah, is it because he is the son of your paternal aunt?" The Prophet's face changed color, then he said, "Withhold the water until it reaches the walls." Az-Zubayr said: "By Allah, I think this verse was revealed concerning that: {But no, by your Lord, they will not [truly] believe until they make you, [O Muhammad], judge concerning that over which they dispute among themselves} ... to His saying {and submit in full submission}."
