قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مُصْعَبُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ الزُّبَيْرِ كَانَتْ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ أَخِيهِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ خُصُومَةٌ فَدَخَلَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ عَلَى سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ وَعَمْرُو بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ مَعَهُ عَلَى السَّرِيرِ فَقَالَ سَعِيدٌ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ هَاهُنَا فَقَالَ لَا قَضَاءُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ سُنَّةُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ الْخَصْمَيْنِ يَقْعُدَانِ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ الْحَكَمِ.
English Translation
He said: Khalaf ibn al-Walid told us, he said: Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak told us, he said: Mus'ab ibn Thabit told me that between Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr and his brother Amr ibn az-Zubayr there was a dispute. Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr entered upon Sa'id ibn al-As, with Amr ibn az-Zubayr sitting with him on the couch. Sa'id said to Abdullah ibn az-Zubayr, "[Sit] here," but he said, "No — it is the judgment of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, or the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that the two disputants sit before the judge [on equal footing]."
