English Translation

He said: Ya'qub told us, my father told us, from Ibn Ishaq, who said: Hisham ibn 'Urwah told me, from his father, from 'Ubaydullah ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Utbah, from Ra'itah, the wife of 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud and the mother of his child — and she was a woman skilled with her hands — he said: She used to spend on him and on his child from her handiwork. She said: I said to 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, "You and your child have kept me occupied from charity, so I am not able to give any charity along with you." 'Abdullah said to her, "By Allah, I would not like it if there were no reward in that for you to do it." So she went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman with a craft; I sell from it, and neither I, nor my child, nor my husband have any support besides it, and they have kept me occupied from charity, so I am not able to give any charity — so is there any reward for me in what I spend?" She said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to her, "Spend on them, for indeed you will have, in that, the reward of what you spend on them."
