English Translation
Muhammad b. Bakr narrated to us: Sa'id b. Abi Arubah narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Muslim b. Yasar, from Abu al-Ash'ath al-San'ani, from Rashid b. Hubaysh, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, visited Ubadah b. al-Samit to check on him during his illness, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Do you know who is a martyr among my nation?" The people fell silent. Ubadah said, "Support me," so they supported him, and he said, "O Messenger of Allah, the one who is patient and expects reward." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Then the martyrs of my nation would be few indeed. Being killed in the path of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, is martyrdom; death from plague is martyrdom; drowning is martyrdom; death from an abdominal ailment is martyrdom; and a woman who dies in childbirth is dragged to Paradise by her child by its umbilical cord." He said: And Abu al-Awwam, custodian of Bayt al-Maqdis, added to it: "and death by burning and by flood." Abd al-Samad narrated to us: Hammam narrated to us: Qatadah narrated to us, from a companion of his, from Rashid b. Hubaysh, from Ubadah b. al-Samit, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to visit him during his illness, and he related the hadith.
