English Translation
Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us: Awf narrated to me: Hayyan narrated to me: Qatan ibn Qabisah narrated to me from his father Qabisah ibn Mukhariq, that he heard the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, say: Bird-omen reading, ill-omen taking, and ground-line divination are from idol worship. He said: Bird-omen reading is from soothsaying, and ground-line divination is from writing [geomancy].
