حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عِيسَى قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكٌ عَنْ سُمَيٍّ عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَ النَّاسَ بِالْفِطْرِ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ وَقَالَ تَقَوَّوْا لِعَدُوِّكُمْ وَصَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ قَالَ الَّذِي حَدَّثَنِي لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْعَرْجِ يَصُبُّ عَلَى رَأْسِهِ الْمَاءَ مِنْ الْعَطَشِ أَوْ مِنْ الْحَرِّ ثُمَّ قِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ طَائِفَةً مِنْ النَّاسِ قَدْ صَامُوا حِينَ صُمْتَ فَلَمَّا كَانَ بِالْكَدِيدِ دَعَا بِقَدَحٍ فَشَرِبَ فَأَفْطَرَ النَّاسُ.
English Translation
Ishaq ibn Isa narrated to us: Malik informed me from Sumayy, from Abu Bakr ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Harith ibn Hisham, from one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the people to break their fast in the year of the Conquest, and said: Gather your strength for your enemy - and the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, himself fasted. Abu Bakr said: The one who narrated to me said: I indeed saw the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, at al-Arj, pouring water on his head from thirst or from the heat. Then it was said: O Messenger of God, a group of people have fasted when you fasted. When he reached al-Kadid, he called for a cup and drank, and so the people broke their fast.
