حَدَّثَنَا عَامِرُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ تَابَ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى عَلَيْهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْخَلِعُ مِنْ مَالِي صَدَقَةً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمْسِكْ عَلَيْكَ بَعْضَ مَالِكَ فَإِنَّهُ خَيْرٌ لَكَ.
English Translation
Amir ibn Salih told us, saying: Yunus ibn Yazid told me, from Ibn Shihab, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ka'b ibn Malik al-Ansari, from his father, that he said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when Allah, Blessed and Exalted, had accepted his repentance: "O Messenger of Allah, shall I give up my property as charity to Allah and His Messenger?" The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Keep some of your property for yourself, for that is better for you."
