حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيُّ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ الثَّقَفِيِّ عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ قَالَ لَمَّا كَانَ يَوْمُ بَدْرٍ قُتِلَ أَخِي عُمَيْرٌ وَقَتَلْتُ سَعِيدَ بْنَ الْعَاصِ وَأَخَذْتُ سَيْفَهُ وَكَانَ يُسَمَّى ذَا الْكَتِيفَةِ فَأَتَيْتُ بِهِ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ اذْهَبْ فَاطْرَحْهُ فِي الْقَبَضِ قَالَ فَرَجَعْتُ وَبِي مَا لَا يَعْلَمُهُ إِلَّا اللَّهُ مِنْ قَتْلِ أَخِي وَأَخْذِ سَلَبِي قَالَ فَمَا جَاوَزْتُ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى نَزَلَتْ سُورَةُ الْأَنْفَالِ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اذْهَبْ فَخُذْ سَيْفَكَ.
English Translation
Sa'd said: On the Day of Badr, my brother Umayr was killed and I killed Sa'id ibn al-As and took his sword, which was called Dhul-Katifah. I brought it to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he said: 'Go and put it in the spoils pile.' I went back, and I was grieving in a way known only to Allah — over the killing of my brother and the taking of my spoils. I had barely gone when Surah al-Anfal was revealed, and the Prophet said: 'Go and take your sword.'
