حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ بْنِ سَرِيعٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ سَرِيَّةً يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ فَقَاتَلُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ فَأَفْضَى بِهِمْ الْقَتْلُ إِلَى الذُّرِّيَّةِ فَلَمَّا جَاءُوا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا حَمَلَكُمْ عَلَى قَتْلِ الذُّرِّيَّةِ قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّمَا كَانُوا أَوْلَادَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَالَ أَوَهَلْ خِيَارُكُمْ إِلَّا أَوْلَادُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ مَا مِنْ نَسَمَةٍ تُولَدُ إِلَّا عَلَى الْفِطْرَةِ حَتَّى يُعْرِبَ عَنْهَا لِسَانُهَا.
English Translation
Al-Aswad ibn Sari' narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sent out an expedition on the day of Hunayn. They fought the polytheists, and the killing extended to the children. When they returned, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'What made you kill the children?' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, they were only the children of the polytheists.' He said: 'Are not the best of you the children of polytheists? By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, every soul is born upon the natural disposition (fitrah) until its tongue expresses on its behalf.'
