حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ الْأَسْلَمِيُّ عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ جَاءَهُ ابْنُهُ عَامِرٌ فَقَالَ أَيْ بُنَيَّ أَفِي الْفِتْنَةِ تَأْمُرُنِي أَنْ أَكُونَ رَأْسًا لَا وَاللَّهِ حَتَّى أُعْطَى سَيْفًا إِنْ ضَرَبْتُ بِهِ مُؤْمِنًا نَبَا عَنْهُ وَإِنْ ضَرَبْتُ بِهِ كَافِرًا قَتَلَهُ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُحِبُّ الْغَنِيَّ الْخَفِيَّ التَّقِيَّ.
English Translation
Sa'd's son Amir came to him, and Sa'd said: 'O my son, do you want me to be a leader in the tribulation? No, by Allah, not until I am given a sword that if I strike a believer with it, it does nothing, and if I strike a disbeliever, it kills him.' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: Allah loves the one who is rich, hidden, and pious.'
