English Translation
Rawh told us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hafsah told us, al-Zuhri told us, from Safwan ibn Abdullah ibn Safwan, from his father, that it was said to Safwan ibn Umayyah ibn Khalaf: "Whoever has not emigrated has perished." He said: So I said, "I will not go back to my family until I come to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." So I rode my mount and came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, they claim that whoever has not emigrated has perished." He said, "No indeed, Abu Wahb; go back to the valleys of Mecca." He said: Then while I was sleeping, a thief came and took my garment from under my head. I caught up with him and brought him to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "This man stole my garment." So he, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered that his hand be cut off. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, that is not what I wanted; it is given to him as charity." He said, "Then why did you not say so before you brought him to me?"
