حَدَّثَنَا عَتَّابٌ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ أَخْبَرَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ أَبِي يَزِيدَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي قَالَ قَالَ لِي جَابِرٌ دَخَلَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَعَمَدْتُ إِلَى عَنْزٍ لِأَذْبَحَهَا فَثَغَتْ فَسَمِعَ ثَغَوْتهَا فَقَالَ يَا جَابِرُ لَا تَقْطَعْ دَرًّا وَلَا نَسْلًا فَقُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ إِنَّمَا هِيَ عَتُودَةٌ عَلَفْتُهَا الْبَلَحَ وَالرُّطَبَ حَتَّى سَمِنَتْ.
English Translation
Attab told us, Abdullah told us, Umar ibn Salamah ibn Abi Yazid informed me, who said: my father told me, who said: Jabir said to me: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered upon me, and I set out to slaughter a young female goat, and it bleated. He heard its bleating and said: "O Jabir, do not cut off milk-production and offspring." I said: "O Prophet of Allah, it is only a small goat that I fattened with unripe and fresh dates until it became fat."
