English Translation

Muhammad ibn Abi 'Adi told us, from Sulayman, that is al-Taymi, from Abu Nadra, from Jabir, who said: I was riding a water-carrying camel of mine at the rear of the caravan, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, struck it a blow — or he said, jabbed it once. After that it was always at the front of the caravan, except when I held it back. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came to me and said, "Will you sell it to me for such-and-such, and Allah will forgive you?" I said, "It is yours, O Messenger of Allah." He increased his offer and said, "Will you sell it to me for such-and-such, and Allah will forgive you?" I said, "It is yours, O Messenger of Allah." Sulayman said: I do not know how many times he said, "Will you sell it to me for such-and-such?" Then he said, "Have you married since your father's death?" I said, "Yes." He said, "A virgin or a previously married woman?" I said, "A previously married woman." He said, "Why did you not marry a virgin, who would play with you and you with her, and who would make you laugh and you make her laugh?"
