English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, Shu'bah told us, from Amr ibn Dinar, who said: I heard Jabir say: Mu'adh used to pray with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, then return and lead his own people in prayer. He once led them in the night prayer and recited Surat al-Baqarah, so a man left and went off, and Mu'adh began to criticize him for it. This reached the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: A trial-maker, a trial-maker! - or he said, A tempter, a tempter, a tempter! - and he commanded him to recite two surahs from the middle of the shorter chapters. Amr said: I do not remember them.
