English Translation
Abu Nu'aym told us, Sufyan told us, from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir, who said: I heard Jabir say: A bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: Take my pledge upon Islam. So he took his pledge upon Islam. The next day he came feverish and said: O Messenger of Allah, release me from my pledge, but he refused. The next day he came feverish again and said: Release me, but he refused. When the man turned away, he said: Medina is like a furnace bellows: it expels its impurities and refines what is good in it.
