English Translation
Affan told us, Abu Awanah told us, Abu Bishr told us, from Sulayman ibn Qays, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, fought against Muharib Khasafah at Nakhl. The enemy saw an opportunity among the Muslims, and a man among them called Ghawrath ibn al-Harith came and stood over the head of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with a sword and said: Who will protect you from me? He said: Allah, Mighty and Majestic. The sword fell from his hand, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, took it and said: Who will protect you from me? He said: Be like the best of those who take captives. He said: Do you testify that there is no god but Allah? He said: No, but I pledge to you that I will not fight you, nor will I be with a people who fight you. So he let him go free. He said: he went to his companions and said: I have come to you from the presence of the best of people. When it was the time of the noon or afternoon prayer, he led them in the prayer of fear; the people were in two groups, one group facing the enemy, and one group praying with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He prayed with the group that was with him two rak'ahs, then they went and took the place of those facing the enemy, and those came and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed with them two rak'ahs. Thus each group had two rak'ahs, while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had four rak'ahs.
