حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ عَنْ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ أَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ يَسْتَطْعِمُهُ فَأَطْعَمَهُ شَطْرَ وَسْقِ شَعِيرٍ فَمَا زَالَ الرَّجُلُ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُ هُوَ وَامْرَأَتُهُ وَوَصِيفٌ لَهُمْ حَتَّى كَالُوهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَوْ لَمْ تَكِيلُوهُ لَأَكَلْتُمْ مِنْهُ وَلَقَامَ لَكُمْ.
English Translation
Musa told us, Ibn Lahi'ah told us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that a man came to him asking for food, so he gave him half a measure (wasq) of barley. The man kept eating from it, along with his wife and their young servant, until they measured it out and found it exhausted. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Had you not measured it, you would have kept eating from it and it would have lasted for you."
