English Translation
Hasan told us, Ibn Lahi'ah told us, Abu al-Zubayr told us, from Jabir: that a monk gave the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, a gift of a cloak of fine silk. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, wore it, then came to the House and put it down, and sensed that a delegation had come to him. So 'Umar told him to wear the cloak for the arrival of the delegation, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Wearing it does not befit us in this world, though it may befit us in the Hereafter. But take it, O 'Umar." He said, "You dislike it, yet I take it?" He said, "I am not commanding you to wear it, but send it to the land of Persia so that you may gain wealth by it." So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent it to the Negus, who had treated well those companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, who had fled to him.
