حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ أَمَرَنَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلَابِ حَتَّى إِنَّ الْمَرْأَةَ تَقْدَمُ مِنْ الْبَادِيَةِ بِكَلْبِهَا فَنَقْتُلُهُ ثُمَّ نَهَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ قَتْلِهَا وَقَالَ عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْأَسْوَدِ الْبَهِيمِ ذِي النُّقْطَتَيْنِ فَإِنَّهُ شَيْطَانٌ.
English Translation
Rawh told us, Ibn Jurayj told us: Abu al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir ibn Abdullah say: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, commanded us to kill dogs, so much so that a woman would come from the desert with her dog and we would kill it. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade killing them and said, "Keep to the solid black one with two spots, for it is a devil."
