English Translation
Abd al-Samad and Abu Sa'id — the meaning being the same — told us, they said: Za'idah told us, from Abdullah ibn Muhammad ibn Aqil, from Jabir, he said: A man died, and we washed him, embalmed him, and shrouded him, then we brought him to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, to pray over him. We said: "Will you pray over him?" He took a few steps, then said: "Does he owe a debt?" We said: "Two dinars." So he turned away. Abu Qatadah took responsibility for it, so we came to him, and Abu Qatadah said: "The two dinars are upon me." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Has the creditor's right been secured, and is the deceased free of them?" He said: "Yes." So he prayed over him. Then, a day later, he said: "What happened with the two dinars?" He said: "He only died yesterday!" He said: So he returned to him the next day, and he said: "I have paid them off." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Now his skin has become cool." Mu'awiyah ibn Amr said in this hadith: "We washed him," and said: "We said, 'We will pray over him.'"
