حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنْ هِشَامٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا سِرْتُمْ فِي الْخِصْبِ فَأَمْكِنُوا الرِّكَابَ أَسْنَانَهَا وَلَا تُجَاوِزُوا الْمَنَازِلَ وَإِذَا سِرْتُمْ فِي الْجَدْبِ فَاسْتَجِدُّوا وَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالدَّلْجِ فَإِنَّ الْأَرْضَ تُطْوَى بِاللَّيْلِ وَإِذَا تَغَوَّلَتْ لَكُمْ الْغِيلَانُ فَنَادُوا بِالْأَذَانِ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالصَّلَاةَ عَلَى جَوَادِّ الطَّرِيقِ وَالنُّزُولَ عَلَيْهَا فَإِنَّهَا مَأْوَى الْحَيَّاتِ وَالسِّبَاعِ وَقَضَاءِ الْحَاجَةِ فَإِنَّهَا الْمَلَاعِنُ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Salamah told us, from Hisham, from al-Hasan, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When you travel in fertile land, give the mounts their due share of grazing and do not exceed the proper stages between stopping places; and when you travel in barren land, press on quickly and travel by night, for the earth is traversed more easily by night. And if apparitions trouble you, call out the call to prayer. And beware of praying on the main roads or camping upon them, for they are the resort of snakes and beasts of prey, and beware of relieving yourselves there, for that brings curses."
