English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us, who said: Thabit informed us, from Anas ibn Malik: that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave gifts to Abu Sufyan, 'Uyaynah, al-Aqra', and Suhayl ibn 'Amr, among others, on the Day of Hunayn. The Ansar said, "O Messenger of Allah, our swords are dripping with their blood, while they take away the spoils." That reached the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, so he gathered them in a tent of his until it was overflowing, and said, "Is there anyone among you not of your own tribe?" They said, "No, except our sister's son." He said, "The sister's son of a people is of them." Then he said, "Did you say such and such?" They said, "Yes." He said, "You are the inner garment and the people are the outer garment. Are you not content that the people go away with sheep and camels, while you go away with the Messenger of Allah to your homes?" They said, "Of course." The Ansar said: "My inward circle and my special ones—if the people were to take one valley and the Ansar another path, I would take the Ansar's path. Were it not for the migration, I would be one of the Ansar." Hammad said: He gave a hundred camels, naming each one of these individuals.
