حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ حَدَّثَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَرَّتْ عَلَيْهِ جَنَازَةٌ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ مُرَّ عَلَيْهِ بِجِنَازَةٍ أُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَجَبَتْ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ.
English Translation
'Affan narrated to us, Hammad narrated to us, Thabit narrated to us, from Anas ibn Malik: that a funeral bier passed by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and they praised the deceased with good words, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "It is confirmed." Then another bier passed by, and they spoke ill of the deceased, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "It is confirmed." Then he said, "You are the witnesses of Allah on earth."
